supporting evidence of reincarnation
06.22.04 (4:11 pm) [edit]
My email newletter from About.com thought some folks would find it interesting. [LINE] We are born, we live a short while, and we die... to be forgotten by the ceaseless flow of time. Perhaps that is not always exactly the case. Many believe that the human spirit returns to this life, again and again, in new incarnations. "I always entertained the theory of reincarnation as a viable possibility," says HRM, "but a series of events occurred that convinced me that it was most definitely real, and that without a doubt is part of my past." Others believe that the energy of a human spirit can survive beyond death and carry a personal message of its experience to the consciousness of the living. Either might be the case here. This is HRM's story... http://paranormal.about.com/o...

Americans have a choice
http://www.draftbruce.com" title="http://www.draftbruce.com" target="_blank"http://www.draftbruce.com
Found this on Ejovi's blog and decided to spread the word.
----------------from draftbruce.com---------------------- I have put Giants Stadium on hold on September 1 in the hope that you will lead the music industry in coming together and perform in a concert for change. Once it is known that you are involved, many other artists will want to perform with you. Together your collective voices and music will send a clear message to all Americans that our country needs their vote to create change. The event is called VoteAid: "Concert for Change" and we think that it has the potential to become the largest concert in history. ----------------from draftbruce.com----------------------

Well haven't been logging onto tBlog as I am obssessed with my new web browser Opera 7.51 http://www.opera.com My previous browser was SlimBrowser http://www.flashpeak.com Both are good but I decided to try out Opera as it was featured on Spymac http://darrel.knutson.com/mac...
Ever since then I have been tweaking away on Opera, changing the buttons, menus, bookmarks and so on. Opera for Windows isn't without it's flaws though, am having trouble listening to music on websites. Working on that issue currently.

06.15.04 (10:07 am) [edit]
:D It has begun. Ever since the beta launch of Gmail, Google's email service which promises swift search options and a 1GB Inbox folder. Other companies are now scrambling for a bigger share in the market. This afternoon as I logged onto my Yahoo account I noticed some changes in the page layout but was surprised to see my inbox capacity increased to 100MB. I have another account with spymac that features a 1GB inbox capacity free!
Personally, as long as no one loses his/her job and especially as I work for neither of the mentioned companies. I coudn't care less of who does what to gain more clients, cause this means better email service for me.

catch that kid & scary movie 3
06.11.04 (4:44 pm) [edit]
Well yesterday as I had nothing better to do, saw the above mentioned movies.
Catch that Kid, was a nice feel-good flick for KIDS!! Why on Earth did I see it? Oh yea, had nothing better to do.
Scary Movie 3 unlike 1&2 tries a bit too hard to be funny, skip this one folks, the only good thing about this movie was the spoofs of various films. I managed to sit for the 1st half of the movie, just couldn't stand it after that. Well thats me, am sure people found it quite entertaining.
Checked some pix on my cam that I took a few days earlier, they turned out better than I had expected, especially as they were taken from a moving vehicle. Will try to upload them soon.

06.10.04 (2:58 pm) [edit]
Just finished watching Paycheck http://www.paycheckmovie.com Yes I know this isn't a fairly new movie, but I take my time catching up on flicks. And for unknown reasons I always rented another dvd instead of this one.
Anyways director John Woo has done it again, giving us another great action+thriller movie. There is hardly a dull moment in this flick, I for one, cannot stand slow scenes usually featuring the hero with his girl. All I want to see is, guts, glory and death / a happy ending.
Lucky for me, this movie had all the above mentioned four. Yep, I certainly reccomend this movie for those interested in a fast paced sci-fi+action theme. Am so hungry, missed my lunch again this afternoon. I still have more dvds to view :)
------------------------- ------------------------- ------ An interesting point featured in the movie is that, knowing your future can be a dangerous thing. Since you always know, hear or see only a part of it, unless you see each and every minute detail that leads you to the end. This may cause you to take measures that may eventually lead you to this arbitrary event OR perhaps you are able to change your future but then maybe thats exactly what was destined and you never saw it. ------------------------- ------------------------- ------
Right now the TV mini-series 5 Days to Mignight http://www.5daystomidnight.co... on the Sci-Fi channel is following the same plot. "Can you really change your future once you know it? And if you do, how does this alter reality from what it would have been?"

'Returner' reviewed
06.09.04 (4:18 pm) [edit]
I finally saw the Japanese sci-fi flick Returner http://www.sonypictures.com/r... last night, which was good and entertaining to an Asian Cinema junkie like me. I thought for once they got the guilty party right in the war between humans and aliens.
Too many flicks [including anime] out there feature meaningless alien invasions and always show aliens as hostile beings. In psych class I learnt this type of behaviour is called 'projection' where we project our fears and view of ourselves onto others. [sighs]
------------------------- ------------------------- ----------- At times I think there is no hope for the human race; the year is 2004, we have gone to the moon, built a space station, Mir and have yet not resolved our petty differences of race and religion. Sheesh, we are all lame-o's. ------------------------- ------------------------- -----------
Anyways the animation and special effects are quite good, the alien design reminded me of the aliens in the movie Final Fantasy:The Spirits Within. http://www.apple.com/trailers... The plot is a fairly simple one and not too far out as some sci-fi flicks tend to be - A soldier from the future, Milly must travel 82 years back in time to prevent the war from taking place by intercepting the first alien who crash lands on Earth. Where acting and dialogues are concerned please understand this is a Japanese flick, watch the film in its intended language and style :P

View:
Well there isn't much that I can really say about this film, other than It's beautiful & a great movie as it takes on the near impossible task of bringing the book to film. But as Krazed http://krazedone.tblog.com comments the book is indeed far greater than the movie, if you wish to learn all the details of Tolkien's world.
Counterview:
The movie wasn't shot in a chronological order, in some cases the end scenes of some parts were shot even before the opening scenes were finished. And so Anduril [Aragorn's weapon which is re-made from the shards of Narsil] which was featured in the 3rd part is actually first mentioned in the 2nd part according to the book, when Aragorn first visits King Theoden of Rohan. The book adds that any man other than the heir of Gondor would die instantly if he drew the blade from it's sheath. But such errors are acceptable given the scope of the movie. A lot of characters from the book never made it to the screen, Tom Bombadil a real mystical character and possibly even more powerful than 'Gandalf the grey' never made it to the film, Saruman's end was never shown in the original DVD, am guessing perhaps it's on the special edition DVD. And well the list goes on...But one cannot demand perfection from a movie of this size. So I'll keep quiet now. Another fact that strikes me strange about the book is this quote made by Whoopi Goldberg when she hosted the Oscars, "A three hour film and not one black actor." Any die-hard Tolkien fan wish to defend his case? Oh by the way I own LOTR the complete book, The Silmarillion and A Tolkien Bestiary by David Day, just so you know I have nothing against the writer, I even read his Biography by Humphrey Carpenter just to learn more about him.

catch 22
06.04.04 (5:42 pm) [edit]
Sorry, about the earlier post. That was my placeholder, I was too lazy to make an entry that day, and didn't want to make an entry today saying, "Yesterday I saw this movie..." Hehe.
So, I saw the movie Catch 22 this afternoon on AMC. Partly because I had nothing better to do and partly because the host for the movie event mentioned, "We have all heard of this movie Catch 22, but most of us haven't seen it." After hearing that I recalled listening to something similar on the radio, ages ago. Something like, 'Take 21 to catch 22' I think it was a mystery novel...
Anyways, that made up my mind to view the entire movie without flipping channels. This movie is based on the book of the same title by 'Joseph Heller' (1923-1999). Writing a description of this movie is the same as reading the review of the book, so the following are the book's review. ------------------------- ------------------------- -----
Here's the catch
------------------------- ------------------------- ----- From About.com
"'You mean there's a catch?' 'Sure there's a catch,' Doc Daneeka replied. 'Catch-22. Anyone who wants to get out of combat duty isn't really crazy.'
There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded.
All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.
'That's some catch, that Catch-22,' he observed." "It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.

Catch 22 on the banned book list :) http://www.webster.edu/" title="http://www.webster.edu/" target="_blank"http://www.webster.edu/~barrettb/heller.htm ------------------------- ------------------------- -----
More about the movie
------------------------- ------------------------- ----- From Amazon.com
There was a time when reading Joseph Heller's classic satire on the murderous insanity of war was nothing less than a rite of passage. Echoes of Yossarian, the wise-ass bombardier who was too smart to die but not smart enough to find a way out of his predicament, could be heard throughout the counterculture. As a result, it's impossible not to consider Catch-22 to be something of a period piece. But 40 years on, the novel's undiminished strength is its looking-glass logic. Again and again, Heller's characters demonstrate that what is commonly held to be good, is bad; what is sensible, is nonsense.
Yossarian says, "You're talking about winning the war, and I am talking about winning the war and keeping alive." "Exactly," Clevinger snapped smugly. "And which do you think is more important?" "To whom?" Yossarian shot back. "It doesn't make a damn bit of difference who wins the war to someone who's dead." "I can't think of another attitude that could be depended upon to give greater comfort to the enemy." "The enemy," retorted Yossarian with weighted precision, "is anybody who's going to get you killed, no matter which side he's on."
Mirabile dictu, the book holds up post-Reagan, post-Gulf War. It's a good thing, too. As long as there's a military, that engine of lethal authority, Catch-22 will shine as a handbook for smart-alecky pacifists. It's an utterly serious and sad, but damn funny book. - Editor from Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0684 833395/002-0888418-164481 9" title="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0684 833395/002-0888418-164481 9" target="_blank"http://www.amazon.com/exec/ob...
------------------------- ------------------------- -----
The opening of the movie itself was refreshingly new for me although it's an old flick, Mr. John Voight looks like a kid here, I had a hard time recognising him!
The movie begins without any sound or music, just a pitch black background with the usual names and credits flashing. Then you notice the names are now appearing at the bottom half of your screen, you hear a dog barking in the distance, and ever so slowly, you realise you were looking at a landscape at night and daylight creeps in. This peaceful image is shattered by the sound of engines and bomber airplanes taking off on a mission. We see Capt. Yossarian striking a deal with this crafty looking Colonel, he leaves the office, [if you can call it an office, given its war-ravaged condition] a happy man only to be stabbed in the back by an unknown person in US (army? airforce? recruit?) uniform. And thus begins a series of flashbacks within flashbacks that eventually lead us to this event.
Catch this flick, pun intended (If that was a pun).

inspiration for fellow inventors in this era
06.02.04 (12:40 pm) [edit]
Article as seen on the BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/te...
An interesting point here is, now all you need is a good solid idea based on current laws of science as we understand it [can you believe patents were denied to Mr. Tesla cause the folks issuing patents didn't understand how his inventions worked] and motivation. Copyright laws do help in this case.
Here is the article; Beautician Paula Ward was concerned about her 11-year-old daughter's safety during internet chats so she decided to invent a way to block unwanted numbers.
The Phone & Net Guard - which allows the user to bar specific numbers - could net the Surrey mother a fortune.
She became the first Briton to win the top title in the 20-year history of a competition staged in the US.
Arranging meetings
Mrs Ward beat 1,000 other hopefuls at Inpex, the world's largest invention trade show in Pittsburgh.
The Caterham mother thought of the idea two years ago when she began to worry about her daughter Stephanie's use of internet chat rooms.
"Stephanie came home from school one day and told me that she had been on a chat room and she was not very comfortable with the conversations online," said Mrs Ward.
"A week later I checked her computer and I saw a worrying conversation where she seemed to be arranging to meet someone at the park nearby."
After contacting BT, Mrs Ward was told her only option was a call barring system that blocked all outgoing calls except 999. There was no system available that could bar selected phone numbers.
But rather than be put off, former model Mrs Ward set about learning the rudiments of telecom engineering and recruited a local electronics firm to build the prototype.
She tried approaching telecom giants Commtel UK, whose name she had seen on gadgets in shop windows.
Unable to secure an appointment by phone, she turned up at the company's offices in Corby, Northants, with the device and two of her children.
"I got the impression they thought they were dealing with an idiot," she said.
Blocking signals
She proceeded to give them a demonstration of how the device worked.
"So I showed what it could do, and they all started clapping."
"They told me not to leave and got me to sign an exclusive contract there and then. I was shocked, I just couldn't believe it."
The £29.95 device goes on sale for the first time at Homebase stores in August.
As well as preventing calls to specified numbers, it can also block broadband signals without affecting the normal phone line.
Mrs Ward won the UK Inventor of the Year title in 2003. She is now going on to develop other ideas, some of which first came to her several years ago.
